Description
Avoriaz is a French resort located in the hearts of the Portes du Soleil ski area which comprises of Morzine, Le Gets and Chatel. It is a purpose built resort and is made up of mostly vast apartment blocks. However, being purpose built means the design has been perfectly achived to allow the resort to be sunny whilst the slopes remain shady. This, along with the altitude allows for a snow-sure resort. The lifts in Avoriaz itself are modern and therefore fast and relatively queue free.

The resort is traffic-free making it an excellent choice for families with young children. Although we have found dragging your bags around in the deep snow can be challenging. There are horse drawn carts and trolleys available, but you will need to grab them fast in peak season.

With an extended lift pass you can reach the full extent of the Portes du Soleil ski area as well as Champery in Switzerland, giving you access to some extensive skiing with slopes for everyone.

Views from Avoriaz are grand, with its altitude and cliff-top setting giving excellent views of Morzine below. You can also get wonderful views higher up of Dents Blanches and the Dents du Midi.

For freestylers, Avoriaz is heaven, with five parks in total. There is also parks for intermediates and beginners to enjoy and include the so called ‘stash park’.
