Meribel is located in the Tarentaise Valley of the French Alpes, near to Moutiers and is the centre of the famous 3 Valley ski area (which has the biggest lift network in the world). The village is purpose built but retains charming and is mostly chalet-style architeture.
There is an impressive lift system in Meribel alone, that then extends into the 3 Valleys. To explore beyong Meribel you will an upgraded lift pass, but beginners and most intermediates will have plenty to keep them happy in Meribel alone. For beginners there are green runs that go almost back to resort and there are a few free drag lifts. There is a blue that goes right down into resort, but some beginners may wish to avoid this as it becomes more tricky lower down. There is a mini lift pass that can give beginners access to some gentle slopes. There is also a small nursery slope mostly used by childrens ski schools. For intermediates, the area will excite them. Meribel alone can be enough, but if you want to explore more you can head into the 3 Valleys to cover a lot of milage with ease. For more experience skiers and snow boarders, there are some exciting choices and the size of the potential ski area there is something for everyone, inuding mogul runs and off-piste (be sure to take a guide).
Meribel its self slightly lacks mountain restaurants, but by heading further afield into the 3 Valleys will open up the opportunities. The village itself offers better restaurants from traditional French cuisine to pizza and pasta, so something for everyone. The Apres ski is very up beat in Meribel, with a new Folie Douce (famous in Val D'Isere) and there are a good ring of bars on the main square. 'Dick's Tea Bar' becomes the main focus when most people have hit the sack!
