Val Thorens is located in the Tarentaise Valley of the French Alps and is the highest ski resort in Europe, meaning it is very snow-sure (a good choice for the beginning and end of season). It is also linked with the famous 3 Valleys ski area which offers extenisve slopes for all abilities. Although it is a purpose built resort, it still gives off a lot of charm and has a lively buzzing atmosphere with excellent apres ski.

The lift system in Val Thorens and the 3 Valleys is very efficient meaning you don't waste time stuck on slow lifts and can enjoy the vast terrain. The off-piste is also something that is worth exploring (although be sure to take a guide), although you will need good snowfall.

Beginners are well looked after with covenient and gentle nursery slopes leading back into resort. Intermediates have endless slopes to explore and can push themselves a bit further by heading out into the 3 Valleys (making it to Courchevel and back is a rewarding example). You will need an extended lift pass to ski the 3 Valleys but Val Thorens has a lot of its own slopes which will keep most intermediates happy.
